1. Women and Newborn Health Service/King Edward Memorial Hospital
The Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS) incorporates King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH), the WA Cervical Cancer Prevention Program and the Sexual Assault Referral Centre.
KEMH is Western Australia’s only tertiary maternity and gynaecological hospital and treated its first patients in 1916. Today, more than 4500 births take place at the hospital every year and it is WA's only major referral centre for high-risk pregnancies. KEMH has a state-of-the-art 80 bed Special Care Nursery, designed to care for premature and sick infants.
Early Intervention and Pre-Birth Planning
The site visit will include a presentation by the Head of Department, Social Work, on the Pre-Birth Protocol which is a partnership between KEMH and the Department for Child Protection. The model recognises the critical importance of early intervention and planning involving the family and the need to adopt and interagency approach to safeguarding the wellbeing of unborn children.
The site visit will also include a tour of the hospital beginning with the antenatal clinic (Adolescent Clinic), through Delivery Suite and Special Care Nursery.

2. childFIRST (DCP and WA Police Joint Child Interview Unit)
childFIRST is the centralised joint agency child protection, assessment and forensic interviewing service in Western Australia. The joint service model and co-location enables childFIRST to address the welfare needs of the child through the Department for Child Protection, whilst pursuing criminal investigations through WA Police, reducing the need for multiple interviews and the impact of system induced trauma.
The site visit will include a tour of the unit with time for questions.

3. Parkerville Children and Youth Care
For the past 106 years, Parkerville Children and Youth Care, a nongovernment, not-for-profit organisation, has been providing care and protection to vulnerable children and young people. Since 1973, this organisation has provided services specifically for abused children and young people.
Today the organisation spans across the Perth metropolitan area with a range of diverse services including therapeutic residential and community foster care for children and young people aged 0-16 years and a series of youth homeless programs for youth 14-20 years. The organisation also conducts day programs in home assessments, child sexual abuse treatment and counseling services, and young parenting programs.
In 2010, Parkerville will open the doors to Australia's first Child Advocacy Centre which is currently being built in Armadale (South East Metropolitan area).
The site visit will include a tour of the Armadale facilities and discussion on Child Advocacy Centre methodology followed by a tour of the organisation's campus situated in 18 acres of bush and a brief summary of the history and heritage of this child focused organisation. Morning tea will be provided in one of the heritage listed facilities.

4. Centrecare Djooraminda
Centrecare Djooraminda is a service which provides the following programs:
- Out of Home Care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who are unable to live at home with their families due to a number of issues and concerns. The children are all in the care of the State and are accommodated in cottages around the Lockridge area where they are cared for by Indigenous Carers and supported by a Djooraminda Social Worker and a Children’s Counsellor. The program is funded for 30 placements and the majority of children placed in care are sibling groups. Many of the children will be in long term care at Djooraminda.
- Aboriginal Tertiary Preservation Program (ATSI) is a service which provides early intervention support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families where there is a risk of their children being apprehended and placed in the care of DCP. Djooraminda Caseworkers provide advocacy and mediation to support the families with issues that maybe impacting on their ability to care for their children appropriately. Djooraminda is funded for 40 families in this program.
- Indigenous Family Program (IFP) is a service which provides intensive support to families where there are issues that may affect the family's ability to care for and keep their children safe. The issues maybe homelessness, family violence, drug and substance abuse, sexual abuse, justice issues, health and education issues. In this program the Djooraminda Caseworkers work with the referred family as well as the extended family. Djooraminda is funded for 20 families in this program.
The site visit will include a presentation by Djooraminda staff on the services they offer and program outcomes. An afternoon tea will also be offered.

5. Princess Margaret Hospital Child Protection Unit
The Child Protection Unit is a specialist unit within Princess Margaret Hospital. The unit offers a free service to children up to 16 years where there is concern that they may have been abused. It provides a medical, forensic, social work and therapeutic service, along with training and education of other professionals working with children.
The site visit will include a presentation by the Unit on the initial medical forensic social work assessment process as well as the therapy model that is used. A tour of the facility will also be provided.

6. Challis Primary School Armadale - Challis Parenting and Early Learning Centre
The Challis Parenting and Early Learning Centre is designed specifically for parents of children aged 0-4 years. The Centre provides programs for parents and young children aimed at improving school readiness. Early learning groups, 3 year old kindergarten and parents workshops are all located on school premises with significant involvement from the Health Department.
The site visit will include a presentation and overview by the School Principal about where the Centre started and what it is about. Visitors will be able to talk with the School Nurse, Teacher and Family Support Workers and enter the classroom while children are present. The visit will conclude with a morning tea.

7. Ngala
Each year some 37,000 Western Australian families with babies and young children benefit from Ngala's integrated early parenting and children's services including telephone helpline, centre and home based consultation services, community based programs, parenting and professional education and early learning and development services as well as therapeutic individual, family and group interventions where children are at risk.
APCCAN attendees visiting Ngala will receive information including:
- an overview of Ngala's integrated services, the service delivery model and practice framework
- working in an interdisciplinary team environment
- Hey Dad WA and Ngala's experience working with fathers
- Hearing the voice of the child - Ngala's Child Initiated Approach and
- Our experience in working with parents and professionals linking the importance of the early years and children's brain development.

8. Cyrenian House Saranna Women's Program (Mother and Baby Unit)
The Saranna Women's Program aims to enhance the quality of life and well being of women affected by alcohol and/or drug using behaviour with dependant children in their care.
The site visit will include an informal visit with mothers and staff showing visitors the facilities within the Therapeutic Community such as the on-site crèche, accommodation and group rooms. A morning tea will be provided for visitors to share with the mothers and their children.

9. Kings Park Indigenous Heritage Tour
As well as being Perth's premium tourist destination, Kings Park and Botanic Garden is rich with Indigenous history. This significant location features in many of the Dreamtime stories of the Wadjuk people
