About ISPCAN

The International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect® (ISPCAN), founded in 1977, is a multidisciplinary international organisation.

ISPCAN's mission is to support individuals and organizations working to protect children from abuse and neglect worldwide. In addition to its monthly publication Child Abuse and Neglect The International Journal, the organisation offers the LINK newsletter, the World Perspectives on Child Abuse Publication, virtual issues discussions, member and National Partner listservs, and educational events on local, national and international levels.

ISPCAN's members from nearly 180 different countries represent every key professional group involved in shaping the response to child abuse at both the country and international levels. The ISPCAN community includes social workers, physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, child protection workers, mental health workers, psychologists, lawyers, judges, law enforcement officers, investigators, government/community officials, researchers, educators, non-government organisations, leaders, advocates, clergy and other professionals.

ISPCAN: The International Journal

Child Abuse and Neglect The International Journal, is a peer reviewed journal providing high-quality, international, multidisciplinary information on child abuse and neglect including sexual abuse with emphasis on prevention and treatment. The scope extends further to all those aspects of life which either favor or hinder optimal family interaction.

One of the most highly cited and influential journals in the field, it is a consistently strong resource, publishing over 120 papers each year. It is the most international journal in its field, with papers submitted from over 30 countries, subscribers from over 100 countries, and abstracts and occasional papers published in Spanish and French in addition to English. The Journal's commitment to publishing cutting edge, high quality research from a variety of disciplines has reinforced its position as one of the most influential titles in the field. The Journal utilises new technologies. Full text access to it is available online via the ScienceDirect service. With articles currently available from 1977-2007, The Journal is one of the most highly used journals in the ScienceDirect service.
